Studio Touya is a handmade pottery studio located in Seagrove NC where Hitomi and Takuro Shibata set up studio and built Japanese style wood kiln. Our focus is to make simple& functional pottery by using local wild clay and wood firing technique. We named our pottery as "Touya" when we started our small pottery studio in Shigaraki, Japan, and it literary means "pottery house" in Japanese which we really like.

This year marks the 11th anniversary of the Three Potters Symposium and we are excited to host Matt Schiemann, Takuro Shibata, and Hitomi Shibata as this year’s presenters.

Matt will demonstrate wheel throwing process as well as decorative process with underglazes on forms such as make pitchers, teapots, mugs, flasks.

Takuro and Hitomi will focus on making functional pottery with local materials including wild clays and wood ashes. All works are wood-fired by the wood kilns that they built.

There will be a one-hour break for lunch from 12 - 1pm.
